Caring for Your Spine During Pregnancy

Prenatal care is a major focus for an expectant mother. You want the environment for your unborn child to be as healthy as possible. This also reduces the risk of complications at birth. We’re going to consider three things that you should pay attention to while a child is forming in your womb.

  • Proper Hygiene – Bodily fluids from another person can result in infection. This means that you should wash your hands any time you come into contact with another person. Also, be sure to wash before cooking or eating, after cleaning, and after touching anything that could have chemicals in it such as potting soil.
  • Maintain Nutrition – There are certain foods that need to be avoided during pregnancy. Be sure to wash fruits and veggies thoroughly. Take the necessary precautions when handling meat. Avoid risky practices that could result in food poisoning.
  • Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care – This is often overlooked by expectant mothers, but there are several reasons that it is important. A proper alignment of the top two vertebrae in the neck allows the brainstem to function properly. It also helps the rest of the spine to stay in alignment. This helps to keep the birth canal open when it is time to deliver the baby.

Upper Cervical Spinal Care

Your body is making room for the child growing within. This causes your organs to shift around and other physical changes to occur. If something has thrown off your upper cervical spine, correcting this as soon as possible is important for your baby. It can make the birthing process smoother. This can actually benefit the upper cervical spine of your baby, which can be adversely affected by a difficult birth.

In the end, upper cervical care is good for you and for your baby. Let Dr. Jeff Leach of Plymouth, Minnesota help you maintain your spinal health during pregnancy.
