Migraines Due to Medication Overuse Becoming a Serious Problem

Migraine, Migraines, Headache, Headaches, Head Pain, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Relief, Headache Relief, Tension Headache, Tension Headaches, Migraine Headaches, Migraine Headaches ReliefMore and more people are reportedly getting a migraine from rebound or medication overuse headaches. In England and Wales, guidelines have been instituted that advise people to stop taking all medication to treat their headaches if they suspect they are having this kind of problem. However, when people do this, they may suffer a month or so of continued medication induced headaches.

Dr. Manhit Matharu, a consulting neurologist, stated that if people are using painkillers for a consecutive 10-15 days, they will begin to develop medication overuse headaches. The number of people who have these headaches is 1 in 50. This means that a million people have headaches almost daily due solely to taking too much medication. NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) notes that there are other alternatives to controlling migraines that should be considered. What is one of these alternatives that is actually working for people?

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care and Migraines

Migraines have been linked to a misalignment in the top bones of the neck. This could happen due to a car accident, a fall, a sports related injury, or a number of other things that caused trauma to the head and/or neck. A misalignment in this area of the neck often creates changes in blood and cerebrospinal fluid flow and hinders communication between the brain and body. This sets up the perfect conditions for a migraine headache.

By seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor, many have found the relief they are looking for without the use of medications. Upper cervical chiropractors are specially trained to find these misalignments and to correct them through a gentle, yet effective, method. A low force correction to the precise area of the neck where the misalignment lies is often enough to encourage the bones to move back into alignment. Once this is done, communication and blood flow can return to optimum. Most people see a dramatic decrease in migraine symptoms. Some even see their headaches go away completely.
