Multiple sclerosis (MS) often seems to come out of the blue with a patient having no real warning signs. However, it is becoming more common for doctors to associate the onset of MS with a head or neck injury in a patient’s history. One outstanding case of this occurred back in 1996 when a police officer received a settlement because MS set in after an on-duty car accident.
Some of the complaints about the settlement had to do with the long time between the accident and the diagnosis. However, it was noted that some of the symptoms began as soon as a week after the accident occurred. It was just a number of years before the condition progressed to the point where MS could be officially diagnosed.
This account corroborates many other cases of multiple sclerosis where the onset of the condition began gradually following a whiplash-type injury.
Multiple Sclerosis and Upper Cervical Chiropractic
If MS frequently occurs following neck injuries, it makes sense to look here for the source of the problem and for a natural way to get relief from symptoms. As a result, many multiple sclerosis patients are turning to upper cervical chiropractic care.
At Living Well Chiropractic, we use the NUCCA technique. This is a very specific and gentle chiropractic method that involves the use of imaging and examination to determine the exact location and degree of a misalignment. Then a gentle adjustment that does not involve the popping or cracking that most people associate with chiropractic is tailored to the individual patient. Once the misalignment is corrected, many patients discover better overall health, as well as relief from the symptoms of a number of conditions such as MS.
If you are suffering from multiple sclerosis, especially if you have suffered head or neck trauma in the past, come in and see us for a consultation to learn what upper cervical chiropractic can do for you.
